SPURS SORORITY REINSTATED TO FULL STATUS AT TRINITY UNIVERSITY
May 14, 2016
My Fellow Spur-Exes,
After three challenging years, we’re pleased to announce our beloved Spurs Sorority has been fully reinstated by the Trinity University administration. The spring of 2012 was devastating as we learned that Spurs had been suspended for a term of no less than three years.
The behavior of our young sisters was called into question and we, like several other sororities and fraternities on campus, were facing very real repercussions. Rather than being defeated, Spurs rallied as only Spurs can. Alumni advisors stepped in and helped actives reconnect to our traditions, our values and our history.
Our newly-formed Spurs Sorority Foundation became the backbone for alumnae support. Under the bold leadership of Spur presidents Samantha Couch, Sydney Coleman, Mikaela McDonald and Janie Thompson, the actives took reinstatement seriously and helped each other adhere to new rules and guidelines.
As Dr. Fischer’s letter says, “…a lasting, positive change has indeed occurred within your organization.”
Thank you for your support and please, pledge to play an active role in strengthening our Spurs now and in the future. Sisters are we!
Mary Ullmann Japhet
Advisor, Spurs Sorority
